**This is a fantasy novel set in our world. It has fast-paced action, multi-POV storytelling, tons of magic, a female MC, some slow-burn romance and a sprinkle of spice. It contains scenes of graphic violence and death, but does NOT depict toxic relationships, infidelity, or sexual/emotional abuse**

Immortals are real, though only a few remain.

A thousand years ago, Zoe became one of the first. Ageless, powerful, and gifted with incredible magic that ebbed and flowed with her emotions; it was everything she’d ever dreamed of. But no one was ever meant to wield such power, and the price of eternity was far greater than any of them had expected.

They were once worshipped as Gods, but soon became twisted monsters, and their insatiable hunger ravaged the earth until, inevitably, they turned on one another. Centuries of war erupted, and the humans suffered for their avarice, leaving millions dead and the immortals nearly extinct.

Zoe endured, like always, but survival isn’t the same as living.

She has a plan that could change everything. It’s brutal, maybe even unforgivable, but who cares about redemption? She’s prepared to burn the world to get back what was stolen, and kill anyone that stands in her way, but the one thing she hasn’t anticipated is her own treacherous heart.

If you love fast-paced action and morally grey heroes, with slow-burn romance woven throughout, then this novel is for you!

5.0 out of 5 stars: Fantasy Fans will love it.

My readerverified score is 90%. This dark fantasy novel delivers a compelling exploration of immortality, power, and the cost of survival. It is presented in three perspectives—Zoe, Gabrielle, and Jake. This provides glimpses into each character’s struggles with moral consequences of the war between the immortals and a few humans who have been forced to or have voluntarily join their ranks.
The story leans heavily on familiar genre tropes—ancient curses, hidden wars, reluctant heroes. The pacing is somewhat uneven, and some elements of the curse remain deliberately vague, which I expect will be explored in future books.
The book ended with the departure of Jake when he discovers further evidence of Zoe’s almost impossible-to-control inclinations. This was a bit incongruous with his earlier awareness of Zoe’s intrinsic need to kill. Another small irritant was the typos—skipped words, scrambled words, and real-word errors. Ignoring these minor speed bumps, I found this an exciting read for fantasy fans with more adventure awaiting in what promises to be a great series.

My readerverified score 92%. This book hits the ground running and never lets up. Zoe is a powerhouse of a protagonist-immortal, emotional, and armed with magic that feels as volatile as she is. The shifting viewpoints add great depth, and the action scenes are clear, visual, and exciting.
If you’re looking for an urban fantasy full of magic, danger, and a heroine who can level a city block when she’s angry, this is a blast to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars: We need some of Zoe's Magic today!

My readerverified score 91%. Mark Goman's novel is a full-speed-ahead, action-packed blast of magical fury! The Deadly Price of Eternity is such a visual joy to read; I demand that one of the premier streaming services turn it into an epic TV series. I would also pay to see it in the theaters. The characters are fresh, and the storytelling is fluid. I really enjoyed how the author compartmentalised the chapters according to the viewpoint of the different characters, so you revisit some scenes several times from different vantage points.
If you're looking for a fun, action-filled, romantic teaser with a female lead who has a whole lotta magical powers, this is the perfect novel for you! BTW- I liked the original cover better with the portrait of Zoe.
