My readerverified score is 92%. This sequel is a really enjoyable continuation of the series. It keeps the heart of the O’Hare family front and center while steadily expanding the mystery around them. I liked how the book balances everyday moments with that sense that something bigger is always humming underneath. The tone is warm, a little eerie in the right places, and consistently engaging.

The author does a great job building momentum without giving everything away at once, and the world feels richer and more imaginative than before. By the end, I was fully pulled in and definitely ready for the next book. It’s a smooth, well‑paced follow‑up that delivers exactly what you want from a second installment.

Having just finished the second instalment of The Plain Field Series, I can confidently say it delivers on its promise of continuing the O'Hare family's extraordinary journey. After the whirlwind of the first book, it was fascinating to see Angela and her children attempt to reclaim a semblance of suburban normalcy.

However, as the synopsis hints, peace is fleeting, and even simple family outings quickly spiral into new mysteries, proving their adventure is far from over.

Dakota's developing abilities are a central, intriguing thread, and the question of Takoda's reality adds a layer of suspense that kept me hooked. Meanwhile, Connor and DJ's integration into Floral Park life and the potential for new mischief provide a welcome balance to the more mystical elements.

The regrouping of the Council, now seemingly more formidable than ever, ensures that the overarching quest for the Mahogany Box and its power remains a compelling driving force.

While the first book answered many questions, this sequel masterfully introduces new enigmas, leaving you eager for the next chapter. It's definitely a book that demands you settle into your favourite comfy chair and lose yourself in its unfolding secrets. Very enjoyable read.
